Soccer and Tennis

Soccer on the beach is coming on May 14th at Fort Myers Beach. I am going to be playing in this tournament with some of my previous players. If you are 18 or older, live near the Fort Myers, Naples area and would like to join our team, please email me at info@thetravellingtravelagent.com. Time is running out as advance pay for tournaments is always cheaper.

Recently, I have been playing tennis with a group of people in Lehigh Acres. The cute girl in the video plays at a district tournament tomorrow. Hopefully, she will get a good draw and play well. Unless she lets me get her a USTA card and play tournaments, this may be her last day of play. However, I will be heading around Florida playing in some tournaments trying to rank myself. It has been awhile since I have competed in a tennis tournament, but my skills are better than before. If anyone is interestd in tennis tournaments, or tennis group travel, simply email me. A tennis group cruise would be an awesome idea.

Any sport cruise would be an awesome idea. It would be very simple for me to set it up for you. I am actually a sport fanatic, but oddly I do not like watching them. I love to play and be in the action.

Weird Travels in Florida

I wanted to update many people that there are many places to go in Florida that people don’t know about. Take a break from the major expenses of Disney World and Universal Studios and take a trip to Spook Hill in Lake Wales where your car will roll up hill. Take a trip to Henscratch Farms Winery and Vineyard in Lake Placid and ask to stomp some grapes. Check out the area where Flipper used to be in the Florida Keys. Spend the night at a haunted inn in Ocala. Check out Koreshan State Park south of Fort Myers where it used to be said by religious buffs that no longer exist to be the center of the Earth. It’s like a little ghost town by a river. Explore airboats or swamp buggy rides from Okeechobee down to the Everglades. See the ghost lights in Oveido. Take a walk on the boardwalk in Fort Walton Beach. Snorkel offshore near Jupiter Beach. Never seen an alligator in the wild? Give me about 3 hours and I’ll show you at least 50 in the wild. See an entire house built out of aluminum in Ona, Florida. There are so many more off the path things to see in Florida. Tell me your interests and I will find the perfect trip for you, hotel accommodations, and more.

Fort Myers Beach, Florida

I live here in Fort Myers, but one day I just wanted to go take some pictures of the Fort Myers Beach area. I would like you to know, that I went to Fort Myers Beach at the end of January. Notice all the people at the beach. So, if you are up north shoveling all the snow, you might want to think about a little vacation to Florida. There are so many things to do in this state it’s ridiculous. When people think of Florida, they think of Disney, beaches, palm trees, alligators, but there is so much more to it than that. Have you ever thought about taking vacations and checking out the oddities of a state or country? Well, that is what I specialize in. I’ve been to all the main attractions; I want to see the odd, the weird, the unusual side of life. Got guts? If so, email me at info@thetravellingtravelagent.com to see what else Florida has to offer. And yes, there were people swimming in the Gulf of Mexico at Fort Myers Beach. You also might want to check out their fishing pier, which you will see photos of below. Enjoy! See you soon.

Free Las Vegas Trip

The Sahara hotel and casino in Las Vegas Nevada sent my wife and I a free vacation. Not only was the vacation free, we were invited to play in a 3 round slot tournament. There were 290 people in this tournament and 6th-45th place won $100. Although my wife and I did win $100 in this tournament, I was real close to the Big money that began in 5th place. I, the Travelling Travel Agent, came in 7th :(   7TH? I was too close. They send us one of these vacations now every two months. We do have to pay for the plane ticket, though. In Vegas, all we had to pay for was food. Slots were cheap to play and we’re not crazy players, so we didn’t lose nor gain any money. We did watch a magic show by Rick Thomas. He was somewhat comical and passionate about his tigers. Some of the tricks I could figure out, the others I had no clue. We went to a few other casinos to see if we could get free play for getting a members card. We did that and won only $5. Then again, $5 is better than nothing. We saw an ad for Hooters that said $100 free play. So, yes, we had to go check it out. It was a little sectioned off area where you played maximum bet at $5 with their card. So, in other words you really have no chance to win anything. Plus, those machines were boring. Their casino was actually pretty cool. I sat at a penny fish game for about an hour, then I won off of a really neat Dukes of Hazard game I didn’t see anywhere else. So, with all that we did minus the food, our Vegas trip was $240 all together from Fort Myers. Not a bad gig. If you want escorted service to Las Vegas and would like a free room at the Sahara, email me at info@thetravellingtravelagent.com for details. If not free, I can usually get the Sahara for under $30. Other hotels can be reserved for under $100. Actually, most of them can.

Lion Country Safari, West Palm Beach, Florida

This is an excellent place to see animals in a natural setting. It is a drive through zoo/safari in West Palm Beach. Upon entering the park, you will receive a CD to listen to as you drive through gated sections, animals being different per section. There is plenty of room on the road for tourists to pull over and take pictures. It takes about 30 minutes to drive through, but at the end of your driving, (and returning the CD) you will end up in a parking lot where you can get out and go explore more of the zoo.

Me chimpanzee; Me thirsty

They have a few rides for the kids, a small petting zoo where you can feed sheep, goats, and giraffes. They have a few slides and a small little boat ride as well where you can see monkeys. The monkeys we saw on the safari part had water bottles. They would go down to the dock, climb down the steps, and fill up the water bottle. They would then go back to their little house, sit in it, and drink the water. I do have a photo of this, but it is hard to see as I had a different camera than I have now. When I return, I will get a closer picture of that as it happens everyday. If you would like to go see a neat drive through Safari, please email me at info@thetravellingtravelagent.com.

Gatorama, Palmdale, Florida

Gatorama is a small zoo in Palmdale. At first, the owners didn’t even want it to be a zoo, but you should read their story on their website. The great things about this place are that you can hold a baby alligator and an excellent alligator feeding. They have so many alligators, they always have babies and they have plenty over 12 ft long. I have been here a few times since it is so close to home. The first time I saw them feeding gators, they fed them chickens from the dock. The gators would use their tail to project themselves out of the water to eat the chickens. The second time I saw the feeding, a guy just fed one alligator. At one point, he was speaking to the audience and left his hand over the wall. He quickly realized it. The only thing I don’t like about the place is that they have tubes to feed some of the animals. I agree with this because of insurance purposes, but I was spoiled by being able to feed the deer, raccoon, and a monkey. The monkey threw the food back at me when I turned my back. The raccoon could turn on his water faucet when he was thirsty, then back off. The deer they had killed another one and I was told the story as the deer was licking me threw the fence. I believe they still have the biggest albino crocodile. His name is Goliath. I just checked their website and it is a lot better than their previous one. You can view it at www.gatorama.com.

Disney World, Orlando, Florida

Well, I can’t have a travel site and mention many Florida destinations without mentioning Disney World. The last time I was inside Disney was in 1993, but my step-daughter went last summer with a friend. Downtown Disney has changed drastically over the last few years offering lots of things to do.

Julie says you can win Cinderella's castle

Magic Kingdom is the best place for thrill rides amongst others. This is the best place for the whole family. MGM is great if you want to learn how movies are made. Plus, it has the Tower of Terror which is a steep drop. I have yet to go on it. Epcot is the most boring place to go ever. I have more fun walking in the woods by myself. Disney hotels are massive. I once stayed at the Dolphin. The inside reminded me of an airport. The best deals for Disney are to have a 3 or 4-day park hopper. This is where you get your money’s worth, yet still very expensive. It is impossible to see all of Disney in one day. Also, you need to where comfortable shoes. Personally, if you have a 2-yr old, Disney is not a good idea. Wait for a year or 2 so your child will remember it and be worth the cost. I have no desire to return to Disney, but if your 18 or under, it may be fun for you if your with a friend. As far as rides, Space Mountain is still the best.

Sidesplitters Comedy Club, Tampa, Florida

I have been here twice and this comedy club is excellent. The first time I went, I took my wife and we saw Larry Miller. I knew who he was, but oftentimes when actors return to their comedic roots, they have little new material or are not funny. Larry Miller was hillarious. Here, they had good nachos and strawberry daqueris. They also gave 2 free tickets for another time if you gave them a business card. The staff was also very friendly. Before entering if you are waiting, they have a bar you can sit at for those impatient people. The only thing that could have been better is one way in and one way out. They have one way in and two ways out. They do it so the comedian can sell stuff or say bye to the public, so really it doesn’t present much of a problem, it just gets overly crowded sometimes. The second time I was there, they had 3 comedians, I forgot the name of the headliner, but he has been there a few times. He was funny as well. I still have my free tickets somewhere I think, but even if I don’t find them, I would be more than willing to head to SideSplitters Comedy Club again.

Hershey Park, Hershey, Pennslvania

Is this where they say it’s “the sweetest place on earth?” I drove my cousins and aunt up to Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania on Thanksgiving back in 1996. I actually went to see a cousin I have never seen. It was my first time to Pennsylvania and my first time driving in snow with consistent flurries. One day, my aunt wanted to go see the chocolate factory in Hershey, so we did. It was snowing, so the park wasn’t open except for the Chocolate ride through the factory. The smell of the chocolate was near phenomenal; it smelled good, but almost made me sick at the same time. It’s amazing how much chocolate can be seen and smelled here. I don’t remember much except that my aunt bought quite a bit of chocolate along with riding through the factory. I also attempted to check out the unopened part of the park since I was able to walk through, but no rides were open. They had a rollercoaster I wanted to ride, but obviously never did. If I am ever back to Hershey, Pennsylvania, I will ride the rollercoaster I missed 14 years ago. Of course, I will ride any other ones that may be there as well. If you want to take a trip to “the sweetest place on earth,” email me at info@thetravellingtravelagent.com and I will get you the best rates.

Mystery Dinner Train, Fort Myers, Florida

Wow!! Wonderful reviews were given on Tripadvisor for the night sleuth on the mystery train that heads through downtown Fort Myers, but horrible reviews were given for the daytime art train with kids. I took the night adventure and although a wonderful idea, they need to work out some kinks. You’re on a train so I understand the price, yet very expensive. The actors were very good, but the one thing I did not like about this adventure is that it took over 20 minutes for the actors to return every time they did a new script. There was also a 5 course meal I didn’t mind, but once again, it was vegetable oriented. I ate chicken cord on bleu. I think it was the only meat they had. Plus, it also took forever for the meal as well. I didn’t have a bad time at all as I was with my wife, my mother in law, and my step daughter, but I just thought they could have planned everything a little better. Certain parts were too boring. I think they have an overnight mystery ride sometimes. I would love to try this, but if it was anything like the night I went on, I don’t think it would be fun.
