Fort Myers Beach, Florida

I live here in Fort Myers, but one day I just wanted to go take some pictures of the Fort Myers Beach area. I would like you to know, that I went to Fort Myers Beach at the end of January. Notice all the people at the beach. So, if you are up north shoveling all the snow, you might want to think about a little vacation to Florida. There are so many things to do in this state it’s ridiculous. When people think of Florida, they think of Disney, beaches, palm trees, alligators, but there is so much more to it than that. Have you ever thought about taking vacations and checking out the oddities of a state or country? Well, that is what I specialize in. I’ve been to all the main attractions; I want to see the odd, the weird, the unusual side of life. Got guts? If so, email me at info@thetravellingtravelagent.com to see what else Florida has to offer. And yes, there were people swimming in the Gulf of Mexico at Fort Myers Beach. You also might want to check out their fishing pier, which you will see photos of below. Enjoy! See you soon.

Sidesplitters Comedy Club, Tampa, Florida

I have been here twice and this comedy club is excellent. The first time I went, I took my wife and we saw Larry Miller. I knew who he was, but oftentimes when actors return to their comedic roots, they have little new material or are not funny. Larry Miller was hillarious. Here, they had good nachos and strawberry daqueris. They also gave 2 free tickets for another time if you gave them a business card. The staff was also very friendly. Before entering if you are waiting, they have a bar you can sit at for those impatient people. The only thing that could have been better is one way in and one way out. They have one way in and two ways out. They do it so the comedian can sell stuff or say bye to the public, so really it doesn’t present much of a problem, it just gets overly crowded sometimes. The second time I was there, they had 3 comedians, I forgot the name of the headliner, but he has been there a few times. He was funny as well. I still have my free tickets somewhere I think, but even if I don’t find them, I would be more than willing to head to SideSplitters Comedy Club again.

Hershey Park, Hershey, Pennslvania

Is this where they say it’s “the sweetest place on earth?” I drove my cousins and aunt up to Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania on Thanksgiving back in 1996. I actually went to see a cousin I have never seen. It was my first time to Pennsylvania and my first time driving in snow with consistent flurries. One day, my aunt wanted to go see the chocolate factory in Hershey, so we did. It was snowing, so the park wasn’t open except for the Chocolate ride through the factory. The smell of the chocolate was near phenomenal; it smelled good, but almost made me sick at the same time. It’s amazing how much chocolate can be seen and smelled here. I don’t remember much except that my aunt bought quite a bit of chocolate along with riding through the factory. I also attempted to check out the unopened part of the park since I was able to walk through, but no rides were open. They had a rollercoaster I wanted to ride, but obviously never did. If I am ever back to Hershey, Pennsylvania, I will ride the rollercoaster I missed 14 years ago. Of course, I will ride any other ones that may be there as well. If you want to take a trip to “the sweetest place on earth,” email me at info@thetravellingtravelagent.com and I will get you the best rates.

Mystery Dinner Train, Fort Myers, Florida

Wow!! Wonderful reviews were given on Tripadvisor for the night sleuth on the mystery train that heads through downtown Fort Myers, but horrible reviews were given for the daytime art train with kids. I took the night adventure and although a wonderful idea, they need to work out some kinks. You’re on a train so I understand the price, yet very expensive. The actors were very good, but the one thing I did not like about this adventure is that it took over 20 minutes for the actors to return every time they did a new script. There was also a 5 course meal I didn’t mind, but once again, it was vegetable oriented. I ate chicken cord on bleu. I think it was the only meat they had. Plus, it also took forever for the meal as well. I didn’t have a bad time at all as I was with my wife, my mother in law, and my step daughter, but I just thought they could have planned everything a little better. Certain parts were too boring. I think they have an overnight mystery ride sometimes. I would love to try this, but if it was anything like the night I went on, I don’t think it would be fun.

Sleuth’s Mystery Dinner, Orlando, Florida.

It has been quite a while since I have been here. They have since moved. The comedy was ok and the mystery script was well-written. However, one of the staff members was extremely rude, which gave me a negative impression for the rest of the night. Also, the dinner consisted of mainly vegetables and I do not like, nor can eat vegetables. There was no variety so now I am upset and hungry with a small plate of nasty cheese and crackers. As the comedy went on, it got a little better. At the end of the show, the audience gets to ask questions. I asked a question and once again, the guy that was rude to me from the beginning gave a smartass remark again. Everyone else was ok. At the time, the price was ok; I am not sure about now. Of course, paying for someone to be rude to me wasn’t professional for this show. This is the main reason I haven’t been back since. The person I was with watching the show solved the mystery. Everyone received a small little prize when exiting. She was told she was going to get a prize, which she did, but it was a piece of crap. Seriously, they could have spent 10 cents on a better prize. I’m not sure if I will give this place another chance. It may have just been that one staff member to piss me off for everything else.

Medieval Times, Kissimmee, Florida

Lots of field trips from around the central Florida area visit Medieval Times. I will admit the staff is fast compared to how many people they have to serve. Another compliment is that the arena was well-themed. Basically what happens is there are 6-8 knights, each who has a horse. They have a different color outfit and your seated to the outfit. For example, if you are seated in the White Knights area, you must cheer for the White Night. They give you little flags to cheer. Then, all nights do an event. The winner gets points or something, I forget. Kids surrounding the arena seemed to enjoy it. I guess it was because they were able to yell. I drove a bus here so I was able to get in free. I’m glad I got to see this for free because I really wouldn’t go see this again and pay for it. The reason why is because it costs an enormous amount of money, especially if you have a family. This is my main setback besides it didn’t excite me too much. However, as mentioned above, the arena was well-themed, plus they had well trained, beautiful stallions. The food was ok, but I could have passed. This is a place to go check it out once for the experience, but nothing further.

Al Capone Dinner Show, Kissimmee, Florida

“Password please” is asked as you enter the gateway to the past. Antique cars, live mobsters, speakeasies, and beautiful dames fill the room. On the wall, you spot a picture of one of the most notorious mobsters of all time. Butterflies settling, you’ve realized it is 1930′s Chicago and you will see Al Capone. Miss Jewel, the hostess of the night, seats you and points to the buffet when ready. After everyone returns to their tables and finishes eating, the music starts, and the show begins.

The Al Capone show is comical, educational, and fun dinner show for the whole family. The theme is breath-taking, there is a variety of food, and the price is unbelievable in a great way. Unlike other dinner shows, tables are spaced enough so others aren’t squeezing through trying to get back to their seat. If you like sitting up front, beware of Capone’s girlfriend Bunny June as she may sit in your lap. This is a good thing, but don’t let any of Capone’s men see it or you may be sorry. Miss Jewel may save you as since she has a thing for Coppers, Capone’s worst nightmare. However, if you are the shy type, private tables are available, or simply ask to be put in the back. Audience participation occasionally happens.

Halfway through the show, taking a well-deserved intermission, delicious chocolate cake is served. This is a favorite among children. The finale of the show is what the audience really loves. Confetti falls and lands in guests’ hair, balloons being popped all over the room with plenty of prizes. Choosing the Al Capone Dinner show in Kissimmee, Florida is an enlightening experience everyone will remember. Photographs are also available with the cast after the show. The Al Capone show is the best themed, best priced, best dinner show period.

Georgia Stone Mountain, Atlanta, Georgia

I have only been here once, but I really would like to see this place again. I was around 12 or 13 (maybe younger) when I was here. What I remember is a big stone mountain, (hence the name) artifacts inside a gift shop – I do not remember if this was on the top or bottom of the mountain. I do remember taking a sky lift, but there was an option to walk up the mountain. Back then, I would have no problem walking up the mountain, but now I may be too lazy. Then again, maybe not. At night, around 9:00 or 10:00 pm, there was a really neat educational laser light show on the mountain. They spoke about historical events and presidents who passed by. I went here with my mother, father, and sister. We stopped here on the way to visit relatives in Kentucky. It was a good stop because it was fun, neat, and something new. Rarely, would I say that as a kid unless there was some thrill ride there. I will soon return to see how different things are today and if there is more stuff to do. According to their website, they have the largest laser show and Georgia’s largest campground. I failed to mention there is a firework show after the lasers. If you want to take a group here, please email me at info@thetravellingtravelagent.com. I will even be your personal tour guide here.

Peace River, Zolfo Springs, Florida

This river also has many memories, but this time with friends as I was 16 or older. My parents had a canoe that I used and a friend of mine’s step dad had a canoe as well. We took a 2 night trip a few times. We saw many turkeys down this river and tried to catch them. They were too fast and they could fly somewhat. At night, a few of us got in a canoe to look for alligators; we found some. This was not necessarily a good idea. My friends didn’t seem to like to fish while on a canoe trip; they just wanted to swim. There were plenty of places to do both as we did find an area to jump off a rope into the river. Actually, there were a couple. Now, it is commonplace in an area called Gardner, between Arcadia and Wauchula to swing off the rope. The trip that we took started from Zolfo Springs and ended in Gardner. Peace River does flow all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. One of our favorite pastimes was to find shark teeth. We found quite a bit, but it wasn’t that easy. Oftentimes, the river dries up in the summer months, so if you don’t want to carry the canoe, I would suggest to canoe after Florida gets the everyday rain after 2:00 pm in the summer.
